You may remember that for the second half of 2017, I absolutely swore by the Urban Decay ‘De-Slick’ primer. It was the only primer I touched for months and was, and still is, one of the best primers I have ever used on my oily skin. For Christmas, I received another primer from the Urban Decay range, this time the ‘Optical Illusion’ primer, and I have been testing it out over the past few weeks.
I pretty much knew I would love this primer too from first use. When applied to your face, it almost blurs your skin and any imperfections, while also creating the perfect smooth base for foundation to be blended on top of.
Although I love using it so much as a base, it is also so perfect for days when I don’t feel like wearing makeup but my skin is looking rather crappy. I tend to use one pump of this all over my face and a small amount of powder and I’m good to go. I think this primer would be perfect if you want to wear makeup for school but aren’t allowed, as it really improves the look of your skin while not being able to tell you’re actually wearing makeup.
In comparison to the ‘De-Slick’ primer, this one definitely isn’t as mattifying; however, I haven’t found this to be an issue and it still manages to control oil and keep my makeup on all day, without having to powder (which is so rare for any primer on my skin).
I’ve found that the ‘Optical Illusion’ primer is so comfortable to wear and doesn’t feel at all drying, meaning it would pretty much be suitable for all skin types.
Priced at £24, this primer may seem pricey compared to some drugstore alternatives, but it is so worth it. I find that one pump of the product is more than enough to cover my entire face and keep my makeup lasting all day. So far, the bottle almost looks untouched after weeks of use so it will definitely last a while and you will get your moneys worth out of it.
At the moment, I might just prefer the ‘Optical Illusion’ primer to my beloved ‘De-Slick’ just that little bit more. Every morning, I find that I’m reaching for this and only this. I could not recommend ‘Optical Illusion’ any more if you’re on the hunt for a new primer. I really don’t understand how these primers aren’t hyped up because they seriously should be.
