Since it’s been almost two years since I started my blog, I decided I’d to do a guide to what you should know before committing to starting a blog. I wish I had read something along the lines of this before starting my blog, so I feel like it will be really helpful for anyone considering it.
Obviously, blogging does take a lot of time and effort, more than most may expect. When you take into account the time sent on planning, writing, and checking over posts, taking pictures, editing pictures, uploading pictures and uploading the posts, the time all adds up. If it isn’t something you’re doing full time or is your main priority, it can be difficult to fit it into your schedule. You have to be sure you can commit to spending so much time on your blog, in order to make it work.
You don’t become the next Zoella overnight. It’s highly unlikely, anyway. There are so many blogs out there these days and it’s definitely not an automatic road to fame and success. If that’s the only reason you’re considering starting a blog, it’s definitely not the right decision and it means you more than likely won’t continue blogging for very long.
Because there are so many blogs, it is inevitable that you will at some point, most likely when starting out, compare yourself to other blogs with a higher number of followers than you. This could be for many different reasons, more than likely they will have been blogging for a longer amount of time than you. It’s important to remember that followers are just a number, even if you’re creating posts which ten people love to read and come back to time and time again and you’re doing something you love, you should stick at it.
Despite all of this, starting my blog was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am now part of such an inspiring and diverse community of people who are so passionate about what they do; whether full time or as a hobby. I enjoy the entire process such much, no matter how time consuming it may be and find it so rewarding with each post I upload.
