2016 has been such a crazy, amazing year for me and throughout the course of it I have tried and tested so many new things, many of which have become essentials within my life. As it is a tradition on my blog, I thought I’d share with you what some of these things are.
In the spring half term holidays, I more than likely should have been focusing on revising and preparing for my all-important A Level exams, which were just around the corner, but instead found myself day after day binge watching videos of people exploring abandoned and derelict buildings and areas. I discovered a channel that I absolutely loved, not only for the incredible abandoned videos already posted on their channel but also just for every day vlogs – exploringwithcody. Throughout the entirety of the summer, there was nothing I loved more than coming home from a long day at work and catching up on what the crew had been up to the previous day. Cody is someone who’s videos I genuinely enjoy watching, if there was a new video from him in my subscription box I’d always choose to watch it before any others. If you’d like to hear more about my love for Cody and his channel, check out my Friday Faves post.
Another YouTuber I found myself continuously going back to through the entirety of 2016 and thoroughly enjoying every single video of theirs is a lovely lady called Ellie Steadman, who you have no doubt heard me mention once or twice on my blog before. This year I absolutely fell in love with Ellie’s channel and her as a person. She is so humble and kind and the type of person you could only wish to know in person. Her Disney vlogs, particularly Orlando ones absolutely captured my heart and entertained me for the majority of the year. Watching her and her channel grow over the course of 2016 has been an absolute privilege and I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store for her (hopefully many magical and positive things).
For the second half of the year I feel like I’ve been listening to the same songs repeatedly. Perhaps my most listened to and loved song is ‘Another Day in Paradise’ by Quinn XCII. I’m not entirely sure what it is about this song, but it always puts me in a positive mood and is the type of song I love to listen to when in the car looking out of the window and pretending I’m in a music video or film.
I also absolutely adored (and still do) Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’ album from the minute it was released. Witnessing her perform a selection of the new songs live, IN PERSON, on her tour in Sunderland was such a once in a life time experience and I loved every minute of it. It made me love her new album even more.
More often than not this year, you could have found me singing away to my Disney playlist on Spotify. Now I’m not trying to brag, but it is pretty good if I do say so myself! Containing all of my personal favourite Disney songs and some of the general classics that you just can’t deny loving, I always find that listening to the playlist puts me in the best of moods.
Throughout summer, it felt like all I wore, on those days when it wasn’t quite warm enough to go out without a jacket, was my stunning Pull & Bear ‘palm beach’ bomber jacket. I’d been eyeing it up on ASOS for forever so it felt wrong not to purchase it. It was definitely one of my absolute favourite clothing items from this year overall.
The Liz Earle ‘Cleanse and Polish’ has been such a stand out product for me this year and I have repurchased it a number of times since my initial buy. I fell head over heels in love with the cleanser towards the beginning of the year and haven’t looked back since. Anything I use to remove my makeup now just doesn’t work as well for me and I find I always have clearer skin when this is part of my daily routine.
If there’s one product I use without fail every single day in my daily makeup routine, no matter if I’m going for a simple and natural or bold look, it’s The Balm’s ‘Mary Lou-Manizer’ highlighter. Why oh why had I not tried this highlighter before now? In my full review I ranted and raved about it so much, if you want to know more about why I have so much love for this stunning product, check it out here.
Since dyeing my hair lighter blonde, I’ve found it tends to look yellowy and brassy if I don’t maintain it properly. The product I have been using since then and have found no better replacement of is the Lee Stafford ‘Bleach Blonde’ purple shampoo. It makes such a difference in my hair and is such an essential in my weekly life.
My Zoeva ‘Cocoa Blend’ eyeshadow palette is also such a stand-out product for me this year; I have used it pretty much every day since purchase and can’t get enough of it. It is such a diverse palette and I couldn’t recommend it anymore. I can’t wait to invest in more Zoeva palettes in 2017 since this one left such a lasting impression.
This time last year, there was absolutely no chance I would pay £24 for a single mascara so it seems pretty crazy now that my favourite one of this year (and potentially ever) adds up to that price! Lancôme’s ‘Hypnose’ mascara is potentially one of the best mascaras I have ever used, which is why I think the price is justifiable. It gives my eyelashes so much length, separation and generally makes my lashes look better than any other mascara does.
