I decided to do this post after seeing quite a few YouTube videos and blog posts like this and I just found them really interesting to find out what make other people happy. It was actually quite difficult to think of ten specific things that make me happy because although there are quite a lot of things that make me smile and can easily cheer me up, I couldn’t think of ten right off the top of my head. Here are ten things that make me happy:
Buying new things
When my friends and I go shopping, I’m always the one that spends the most amount of money, I just absolutely love buying things, whether they are makeup, clothes, bath bombs etc. I love getting home after a shopping trip and looking through all of the things I’ve bought and then trying them out as soon as possible. I love buying things even more now that I have a job because I feels so good buying something with my own money, knowing I’ve worked for it rather than been given it by my parents.
Photographs of happy memories
If you know me personally, follow my social media or have read some of my previous blog posts, you’ll know I absolutely adore having physically copies of photographs. I definitely prefer physically copies rather than having a digital copy because I don’t tend to look through my camera roll on my phone or photos saved on my laptop that often, so I forget they’ve even been taken. My room is absolutely full with photographs, with my polaroid washing line, photos in frames and photo booth pictures in as many places as possible. I love seeing them in my room when I first wake up or when I’m getting dressed because they remind me of how happy I was at those specific times in my life. As much as I love my physically copies of photos, I do also love rediscovering photos on my laptop that I forgot even existed. The library of pictures I tend to look at the most has to be my New York trip folder because that week was one of the happiest and most memorable weeks of my life.
Feeling like a day has been well spent
Getting in to bed I feel 100% happy with how I’ve spent my day and that I’ve used the time wisely is one of the most satisfying feelings for me. I hate feeling like I could’ve spent my time doing something better because it makes me feel like I’ve completely wasted my day. Even if I’ve just sorted out my wardrobe or organised files on my laptop, rather than sitting watching TV or scrolling down my twitter and instagram feeds like there’s no tomorrow it makes me feel so happy.
Watching my favourite films
This is something that makes me extra happy if I haven’t seen the film in a while so that I concentrate on it more than I would if I’d watched it more recently. Some of my favourite films are ‘Tangled’, ‘The Maze Runner’, ‘The First Time’, any three of the ‘High School Musical’ collection, and so many more but those few will have to do otherwise I would literally have to write an entire blog post on them. These movies make me smile so much and you wouldn’t believe how loud I sing along to ‘Tangled’ and ‘High School Musical’. Sunday nights are my new favourite night as I love nothing more than to take all of my make up off, scrape my hair back, put my pyjamas on and get into bed with some sort of sweet treat and my favourite movie on my TV.
Receiving good feedback/praise
This isn’t something that I can physically do to make myself happy, it’s more of something that comes from other people. Nothing makes me feel happier inside and as proud of myself than if someone else tells me that I’ve done something great or I should be proud of myself for something or even something as simple as getting a nice comment on a blog post or an instagram photograph. Whether it’s good feedback from something I’ve done at work or praise from my parents, I love that sense of achievement you get when someone else comments on something you’ve done.
Being re-united with people I haven’t seen in a while
Because I’ve grown up in a generation where everyone spends a lot of time online and I’m part of many many fanbases, I seem to have made quite a few friends over the internet, some of who I’ve never met and some of who I don’t get to see very often because they don’t live next door or five minutes away like other friends of mine do. I hate the term ‘internet friends’ because it makes them feel fake and so far away. I’ve also met friends at events such as concerts and they are some of the kindest, most amazing people I’ve ever met. Since I don’t get to see some of my friends as often as I’d like, I couldn’t be happier when I do get to see them because after not actually speaking to them in person for so long, and then finally getting the chance to, it just feels quite surreal that I’ve managed to stay so close to these people while not actually seeing them for up to a year in some cases.
My ‘happy songs’
I have many songs that I love to listen to to calm me down or just to put me ina good mood at the beginning of a day and when I listen to them, I’m instantly happy and have the biggest smile on my face. Listening to music in general makes me happy because it’s something I’ve always been passionate about and loved listening to as a hobby, but those songs that remind me of a happy time in my life or really mean something to me are what I class as my ‘happy songs’.
Going to concerts
As I mentioned before, I’ve met several friends outside of concerts and I get to see some of the friends that I don’t often see at concerts. Not only do I love this aspect of this type of events, I just absolutely adore seeing the people I care about and have supported for so long performing on stage. I don’t think you’ll ever see me happier than when I’m at a concert and the ones I’ve attended, haven’t disappointed me at all. I’m lucky enough to have attended many concerts in my life so far and have seen some incredible artists perform live. I feel like concerts give everyone a kind of buzz and a positive vibe.
Doing a kind gesture for someone else
A lot of people say that a way to make yourself happy is by making other people happy, because when you see the smile on their face because of an action you have done, it makes you smile too and I 100% believe in this. Making other people happy and doing something nice for them, especially if it’s a surprise, is one of my absolute favourite things to do and I want to start doing kind things for other people more often than I do.
Getting a good night’s sleep
Even something as simple as feeling like I’ve had a good night’s sleep, not having to use my alarm clock for once, not being woken up by the dog, not waking up at stupid o’clock in the morning and not being able to get back to sleep again and feeling refreshed and lively when I wake up makes me incredibly happy. I have to be a morning person as when I’m at school I wake up at half six and when I eventually start sixth form it’ll be even earlier but I just hate being woken up by my alarm and then still feeling tired afterwards. Having a good lie in is such a satisfying feeling for me as I don’t get the chance to have one as often as I’d like.
I know this post was probably pretty cringey but I hope you enjoyed it anyway.
